The senator of the National Party (PN), Jorge Gandiniexpressed his opinion on the need to maintain the unity of the multicolored coalition in the face of the next elections, for the practical purposes of staying in power and prevent the return of the Broad Front.
According to Gandini, President Luis Lacalle accepted the modifications to the pension reform proposed by the Cabildo Abierto (CA) as a measure to achieve this objective.
For the right-wing legislator, it is essential to keep the multicolored coalition together, since any division could favor the Broad Front (FA). In this sense, the senator stressed that the current political situation is “bipolar”: either you are on the side of the multicolored coalition or on the side of the FA.
“We are heading towards a scenario in which the multi-coloured coalition must work or the FA will win the elections”affirmed the white legislator.
Gandini believes that the FA wants to “steal” votes from the right
The senator also spoke about his strategy to attract votes from sectors that historically support the FA. According to Gandini, the left party has “intelligence” to try to take votes away from the right in the next elections.
“I have it to the FA on the other side, with intelligence, to add mine. I have (Yamandú) Orsi there… La Patriada, and what is it? is to suck our people. Or I have that new mystery by Richard Read, which I like. He is a frontist, he says disappointed, so he puts something new for those, to whom wilsonists already the colorados batllistas, It’s like you take a green section from a plant, plant it outside, water it and when you have it big you go and put it in the same pot”.
When asked in the radio interview M24 if the multi-colored coalition was poised to capture votes from the moderate left, Gandini opined that this faction of the FA is “weakened” while the left-wing coalition is becoming more and more radical.
