Gabriel Boric laments the “double standard of the left” that ignores the violations of the DD. H H. In Nicaragua

The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, laments the “double standard of the left” that condemns the actions of rulers in countries such as Yemen or El Salvador, but does not speak of the human rights violations committed by regimes in Latin America such as those of Nicaragua or Venezuela.

During his participation in the World Leaders program at Columbia University, Boric referred to human rights violations mainly in the Central American country. The Chilean president stated that he felt annoyed “when you are from the left and you can condemn the human rights violations in Yemen or El Salvador, but you cannot talk about Venezuela or Nicaragua or Chile. In Chile we had serious violations of human rights in the social outbreak, we cannot have a double standard », he said.

«If we want a future in which the leftist parties have only one moral standard, in the world and in Latin America, especially for human rights, we cannot condemn what some States or the United States are doing, if you are not capable of seeing what that your allies or those who you believe your allies are doing, “said the president.

Boric has condemned on several occasions the serious situation in Nicaragua that has kept the country mired in a social, political, economic and human rights crisis since April 2018 when a series of social protests were registered in the Central American nation that were repressed by the dictatorship. Ortega-Murillo.

Given this, the president urged “to continue working to contribute to the release of political prisoners in Nicaragua, and work so that nowhere in the world having different ideas from the government in power can end up in persecution or violation of human rights.”

“I invite you to commit ourselves from multilateralism to justice and peace at all times and in all places, to carry out the actions that are necessary, and not just declarations, to stop Russia’s unjust war against Ukraine and put an end to all abuses by the powerful anywhere in the world, to mobilize our efforts to stop violence against women”, Boric stressed in his speech.
