Two months after the presidential change of command, Chile still does not have a diplomatic representative in Brazil. This in the midst of the doubts that the figure of Sebastián Depolo has caused for the position.
It should be noted that the leader of the Democratic Revolution has not received permission from the Brazilian government to assume the position of ambassador in that country due to “discomfort” in the Planalto Palace, as a result of his criticism of President Jair Bolsonaro.
Given this, the opposition did not let the situation pass, so from the Foreign Relations Commission of the Chamber of Deputies they promoted an official letter.
According to Radio Biobío, it is a document sent to Foreign Minister Antonia Urrejola, requesting information on the appointment of Sebastián Depolo.
It is requested “to report on the measures that will be adopted in the event of a non-pronouncement by the Brazilian authorities regarding the appointment of Mr. Sebastián Depolo Cabrera, as Ambassador of Brazil.”
“Although more than two months have elapsed since his nomination was announced by HE the President of the Republic, Mr. Gabriel Boric Font, he has not been given the approval he needs to take office,” he added.
On this, the UDI deputy and member of the Foreign Relations Commission, Cristián Labbé, explained that in order to send said official letter, a transversal agreement was reached between all the parliamentarians that make up said commission.
“It was unanimously, from right to left, because today what we have to do is monitor to be represented in the best possible way,” he concluded.
