MIAMI, United States. — The National General Staff of the Civil Defense of Cuba today decreed the cyclonic alert phase in western Cuba due to the proximity of the Hurricane Ianwhich threatens to hit the Island between today and tomorrow.

“It was decided to establish the cyclonic alert phase for the provinces of Pinar del Río, Artemisa, Havana, Mayabeque, Matanzas, Cienfuegos, and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud from 08:00 a.m.,” said that agency in a statement. release released by official media.

Likewise, the informative phase was established for the provinces of Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus and Ciego de Ávila.

The measures were taken “taking into account that weather conditions for the western region continue to deteriorate with the probability of numerous rains in the central region.”

“The management bodies of these territories must assess the situation and comply with the corresponding measures in accordance with their plans,” adds the Civil Defense note.

The state entity called on the population to remain attentive to the information issued by the Cuban Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) and to “disciplinedly comply with the instructions given by local authorities.

Ian became this Monday the fourth hurricane of the current hurricane season, which ends on November 30.

According to him United States National Hurricane Center (NHC)the meteor is moving northwest at 22 kilometers per hour and has maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour, for which it classifies as category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale.

The center of the cyclonic organism is expected to cross some point in the province of Pinar del Río between tonight and early Tuesday morning, and then enter the southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and advance over the west of the Florida Keys.
