Fiscal balance of the public sector showed a deficit of $3,522.8 million in 2021

The fiscal balance of the non-financial public sector showed a deficit of $3,522.8 million in 2021, a figure that is explained by the difference between income and expenses.

This is the second closing of the fiscal year in a pandemic and with a large fiscal deficit, although that of 2021 is less than the $5,220.8 million of 2020, when public income and the economy were most affected by the restrictions to contain the spread of the virus.

The 2021 deficit is equivalent to 5.53% of the estimated gross domestic product and is therefore below the ceiling established in the Fiscal Social Responsibility Law, revised in 2020 to grant more space to the deficit.
