Financial independence motivates 40% of women to undertake

Entrepreneurship rate fell again in Brazil in 2021

Four out of ten Brazilian women (40%) point to financial independence as the main reason to start a business, revealed a survey carried out by Serasa Experian and released today (9).Financial independence motivates 40% of women to undertake

The second reason given by women to start a business is time flexibility (29%), followed by doing what you believe in (24%), having additional income (21%) and earning more (20%).

The survey also showed that 55% of women have already achieved financial independence and that more than half (57%) have their total income from their own business.

The survey heard 446 Brazilian entrepreneurs in January and February. Partners or owners of micro, small and medium-sized companies, individual or self-employed entrepreneurs, informal workers and self-employed professionals were interviewed.

Challenges

Among the challenges that women face when having their own business are the prejudice of suppliers, partners and customers and the double working day. Women also say they feel that they receive fewer opportunities than men in the labor market.

“Women find in entrepreneurship a form of empowerment, and being ahead of leadership positions is an important step towards reducing inequality. However, we know that staying in a competitive and challenging market requires planning, time and financial resources. Therefore, it is essential that more and more women have the opportunity to prepare themselves to occupy these positions”, said Cleber Genero, SME vice president at Serasa Experian.
