The performing arts association La Ventana Mágica presented the first edition of the Festival San Canary Islands of Cuba, an event to be held on the Caribbean island with the aim of establishing historical links between the two regions.
In this way, the project will analyze the legacy that exists between these two cultures and will pay tribute to the emigration of palm women in the first half of the 20th century to Cuba, which originated the movement called “Women of Sugar,” its organizers reported.
More specifically, the programming, which will take place between September 21 and 30 between Havana and Santiago de Cuba, will include film presentations, colloquiums and comedy or cabaret shows, among other activities.
Among the most outstanding acts is the delivery of the “San Canarias de Cuba” award to the career of the Cuban actress Mirtha Ibarra —who will also be the godmother of the festival— and to the Canarian film director Santiago Ríos.
This cultural meeting has the collaboration of the Provincial Council of the Performing Arts of Santiago de Cuba and the Canaria Crea Mobility Project, belonging to the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development of the Government of the Canary Islands.
