Alejandra Victoria Maradiaga Valle turns nine years old today, July 13. This will be her third birthday that she cannot hug her father Félix Maradiaga. The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo has denied her the right to be with her father. Since 2020, Maradiaga has been prevented from leaving Nicaragua by the regime.

On Father’s Day 2020, Maradiaga posted a tweet expressing love for her daughter. The political prisoner considers that being a father is the greatest blessing and learning of his life. “Through his smile, his curious questions about the world, his games or simply his existence, he has taught me to be a better human being,” he wrote on his Twitter account. .

On July 2, the dictatorship was forced to present Maradiaga to the media about his family. A day before, his wife presented a digital spoken portrait of the political prisoner showing the deterioration of his physical condition. The photographs and videos of the propaganda media confirmed the fidelity of the photo presented by Valle.
Felix Maradiaga has lost more than 60 pounds in weight. He is subjected to solitary confinement, poor nutrition, a few minutes of sunlight and under torture at all hours of the day, his wife Berta Valle denounced at the beginning of July at a press conference.
After more than a year in prison, Maradiaga has lost weight, the color of his skin has changed, to the point of looking yellowish; and he too has lost hair. A spoken portrait of the political prisoner shows him emaciated. He remains in isolation, incommunicado and in inhumane conditions.
Maradiaga was captured on June 8, 2021, a few meters from the Public Ministry in Managua, minutes before he had been interrogated by Daniel Ortega’s prosecutors. After his arrest, he was transferred to “El Nuevo Chipote”, a well-known torture center, according to the relatives of political prisoners.
The Ortega justice imposed a sentence of 13 years in prison. The hostage of conscience faced seven hearings that, according to his defenders, were “riddled with irregularities” that culminated in a guilty verdict.
