The presidency of the Broad Front issued a statement before the accusation of the Prosecutor’s Office against Front Amplio militants for “vandalism” for painting a wall with political slogans.
The prosecutor requested 15 days of community work for the militants of the Communist Party who painted a wall on Buenos Aires street, for the 50th anniversary of the murder of the eight communist militants of Sectional 20.
“We consider that this is a serious act, because it criminalizes militancy and dangerously limits freedom of expression. A simple graffiti cannot be legally classified as vandalism, on a wall that, in addition, has had political and commercial graffiti for decades, because no deterioration or destruction was caused to the property, ”is expressed in the FA statement.
Freedom of expression
Likewise, it indicates that freedom of expression is one of the most important pillars of the rule of law and any limitation to its exercise must be interpreted “restrictively, placing in the foreground the express recognition in our Constitution and various international instruments ratified by Uruguay.”
“The defense of our colleagues and colleagues filed an appeal of unconstitutionality before the Supreme Court of Justice, we hope and trust that the Judicial System dismisses this accusation that is clearly illegitimate and if it succeeds it would establish a dangerous precedent”, it is indicated in the statement.
In this sense, the Broad Front is analyzing political actions. “We support our compañeras and compañeros, we reject the criminalization of militancy and we demand political action and street propaganda, which, in addition to being a hallmark of militancy on the left and the popular movement, are a fundamental component of the debate of ideas. , freedom of expression and the construction of democracy”.
