MTOP concludes the five-year period with an investment of more than 20,000,000 dollars in social agreements
The Undersecretary of Transportation and Public Works, Juan José Olaizola, highlighted the importance of the Social Agreements program of the National Directorate of Architecture of the portfolio, and described the five-year experience as “highly successful.” With the signing of more than 400 agreements, it was possible to triple the resources assigned in previous periods to the participating institutions, exceeding $20,000,000, he said.
The Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP) signed new social agreements in Montevideo and Canelones. On the occasion, four institutions benefited: the El Pinar club, the Nuestro Camino foundation, the Agrarian Youth movement and the Association of Bank Retirees and Pensioners (AJUPE). The works meant a total investment of almost 5,000,000 pesos.
The El Pinar club and the Nuestro Camino foundation refurbished their field facilities. These institutions received a contribution of 2,000,000 pesos each. The Agrarian Youth movement renovated its toilet and kitchen facilities, and the Association of Bank Retirees and Pensioners used the resources to set up new classrooms.
Olaizola stated that, although these works are not as well known as the road, port or railway works, they are significant for what they represent on a social level. The leader referred to the priority to reach different corners of the country, through loans with a geographical sense in terms of equal conditions to institutions that work in health, disability or with immigrants.
He explained that, to be beneficiaries, those interested in accessing the program must comply with some steps that include the presentation and control of a project prepared by an architect, which is studied by the Directorate of Architecture. Additionally, a social compensation is required so that educational institutions, such as a school or a CAIF close to the institution that receives the money, can benefit from the quality of the infrastructure of the works carried out.
The social agreements were established by the National Directorate of Architecture of the MTOP, they make up a program and provide non-refundable economic contributions to various institutions to strengthen their impact on the community.
