Forest firefighters continue to work to put it out
Punta Cana. DR– He Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources reported that the National Environmental Protection Service (SENPA) and the Environment Attorney General’s Office detained seven people who were causing fires in Punta Cana.
Those accused of causing these accidents are under the control of the National Police and the Public Ministry, for purposes of submission to justice.
Tomorrow the request for a coercive measure against the detainees will be known, while in cases where real estate agents are involved, the documents are being implemented to process them with administrative sanctions and submissions to justice.
A committee of technicians made up of the Directorate of Control and Risk Management carried out an exhaustive inspection in the tourist area in Verón, Punta Cana, the focus of the various fires, where they toured the affected areas and confirmed the causes that caused the 81 fires.
The investigation showed that the fires were produced by the cleaning of lots, inadequate pest control methods and minimal improvised landfills, being more frequent in the areas of Bávaro, Friusa, Boulevard, Coral, Verón, Cocotal and Circunvalación avenue.
It was also determined that these accidents have been caused by real estate developers, who, in order to clean up their land, set it on fire without implementing any type of measure to prevent it from spreading or affecting the population.
Three fire management technicians, 16 forest firefighters, seven park rangers, 27 UHR soldiers and four structural fire units are working hard to put out the fires with the support of the Cap Cana and Punta Cana group.
Several sources of fire have been eliminated and the remaining ones are expected to be eliminated tomorrow.
Next to the fire sources, signs of real estate projects and land sales are observed, which are under investigation to confirm the status of permits and rule out links.
