Entity points to weaker and more timid Black Friday in 2021

A survey by the Brazilian Institute of Retail Executives and Consumer Markets (Ibevar) points out that Black Friday sales should be weaker than last year’s. According to the survey, released today (23), only five product categories should have growth in consumer purchase intention, compared to 2020. The study tracked purchase intent in 28 product groups. Among the categories observed, only electronic games – Nintendo Switch (25.7%), bicycles (18.1%), headphones (20%), video game consoles (0.8%) and shoes (0. 5%) are expected to grow for the period.

“Without the same financial incentive that occurred last year, double-digit inflation, deterioration in the real purchasing power of the consumer and, considering that many products purchased in a given year will only be repurchased after a long period, 2021 could hardly break records ”, highlighted the economist and president of Ibevar, Claudio Felisoni de Angelo.

The survey also found the product categories that showed the greatest drop in interest on Black Friday: electronic games – PS4 (-46.2%) and Xbox 360º (-45.7%), Home Theater (-45.5%), printers (-31.2%), soccer shoes (-16.2%) and soccer team shirts (-17.1%).
