With 41 votes, 4 absent, the constitutional agreement is given for Emiliano Rolón Fernández to be the next attorney general. He will be in office for the next five years. He will replace Sandra Quiñónez in March. On March 9, 2023, he will be sworn in.
Eusebio Ayala, a national senator for the PLRA, stressed that Rolón Fernández has demonstrated a clear understanding of legal issues.
“He received important, uncomfortable questions that he has answered. The commissions gave him his confidence and I expressed to him that it was the opportunity for the next attorney general to speak to society and commit himself by showing his face, and giving his profile. We know that the position carries many obligations and the enormous burden of people’s expectations,” he said.
Fernando Silva Facetti, a national senator for the PLRA, pointed out that Rolón has always remained coherent in his speeches.
“He is a man who is the son of the Judiciary, he entered after the governance pact when the opposition had access to the powers of the State. He was one of the architects of the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code. He is still a guarantee until now. He also has the courage to apply what the law says. It is what we expect from a general attorney, who meets the expectations of the people and who supports the fight of those who fail society, ”he commented.
Pedro Santacruz, national senator for the Guasu Front, affirmed for his part that the previous prosecutors arrived with commitments from economic sectors.
“Emiliano Rolón there is no room for errors. In the council, we made the selection with transparency. I also want to emphasize that he does not come from any political sector, ”he assured.
