Diego Burgueño replied to Argimón: "You are a true daredevil"

While the General Assembly debated this Monday without an agreement for the formation of the new Board of Directors of the National Human Rights Institution (INDDHH), one of the former candidates to join that body, Diego Burgueño, continued the counterpoint with Vice President Beatriz Argimón, to whom He places the responsibility on him for his decision to drop out of the race for being a director.

“You lie and, perhaps because of your foreign ideological commitment to the National Party, commit a saying known to all”; Burgueno said. “As I tell you one thing, I tell you the other.”

This Saturday, Argimón had questioned whether Burgueño’s decision to withdraw his application to join the INDDHH was motivated by his statements. Burgueño affirmed that he dropped his application after the vice president said that the new directors “have legal experience or extensive militancy on the issue of human rights”. Now, in response, he indicated that he did not believe that the withdrawal of that candidacy was due to his comments. “Actually, when I was consulted, I did not know who they were” (The candidates).

This Monday, Burgueño returned to the fray. He did it, he remembered, on the same day that “the circus” of the election of the directors was being processed and with the “ineffable” declarations of Argimón on the table. “It would be terrible if with his position he speculates that there were unsuitable people since they didn’t even know who they were,” he lamented.

“You are a true daredevil” Burgueño, the son of the civilian killed in 1969 in the crossfire unleashed in the “taking of Pando” between a group of the MLN and the security forces, told him. “In addition to being reckless, in stating that he doesn’t even know my background. It seems that if you have credentials for active militancy in leftist sectors, you also have suitability,” he ironically.

Burgueño recommended to Argimón that he limit himself to topics of his exclusive competence and leave aside the “embarrassing task” of “implant in a government that has nothing to do with its postulates for the international 2030 Agenda”, and also stop “disparaging the rich and long tradition of the National Party and the Republic.”

The now ex-candidate confirmed to Argimón that his “yes” statements were decisive for the withdrawal of his candidacy. “One has fake friends and real enemies,” he concluded, “in this fight that is so unequal but essential for our country, which is the search for all the truth.”
