The Ombudsman was against the removal of Colonel Harvey Colchado from the head of the special team of the National Police, in response to a request made by the Minister of the Interior, Willy Huerta, before the Public Ministry.
In a statement published this Mondaythe institution expressed its disagreement with the change in the coordination of the special team of the National Police of Peru (PNP) intended to contribute to the development of the proceedings in charge of the team of prosecutors against corruption in power led by Marita Barreto.
“After the change of ministers in the Ministry, we sent a letter requesting that we be informed of the actions that the new minister, Willy Huerta, was going to adopt in order to guarantee the work of the aforementioned police group. Unfortunately, we have learned that the change of Colonel PNP Harvey Colchado has been requested under the justification that the Digemin is an organ of the Ministry of the Interior and not of the National Police “reported the Deputy for the Fight against Corruption, Transparency and Efficiency of the State.

The Ombudsman considers that this request should be analyzed in conjunction with the indications that there would be an attempt to interfere in the investigations involving the environment of President Pedro Castillo and the versions given by the former Minister of the Interior Mariano González.
“The institution points out that the arguments put forward to justify the change in the head of the special team are not consistent with the constitutional duty to combat corruption. Although the Digimin is not an organic part of the PNP, it is not an element that damages or disturbs the investigations, on the contrary, it was necessary to strengthen the team already constituted within the framework of what is required by the Public Ministry “they indicated.
