The Norwegian Casper Ruud (8th world player) and the Croatian Marin Cilic (23rd) completed the Roland Garros semifinals today on a day in which the Polish Iga Swiatek once again demonstrated that she is the great favorite to win the female tournament.
Cilic qualified after beating the Russian Andrey Rublev 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 4-6 and 7-6(2), becoming the fifth active player to mark a presence in the semifinals of the four Grand Slam (after Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray).
Ruud, his next rival, will also play his first semi-final at Roland Garros (and in ‘Major’ tournaments) after defeating the young Danish Holger Rune (19 years old and 40th in the world) 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (2) and 6-3 in three hours and a quarter of the game.
On the other side of the draw, it will be Alexander Zverev (3rd) and the great favorite for the title, Rafael Nadal (number 5 ATP and 13-time champion in Paris), who will fight for the other ticket to the final.
The legendary Spanish player has just eliminated the leader of the ranking and defending champion, Novak Djokovic, in four sets in an epic tennis demonstration [6-2, 4-6, 6-2 y 7-6(4)].
The German, for his part, stopped the momentum of Carlos Alcaraz, a great sensation of the season, by also defeating him in four sets [6-4, 6-4, 4-6 y 7-6(7)].

– Swiatek, the big favorite –
The number 1 in the world Iga Swiatek recovered her devastating walk and, after a difficult match in the previous round against the Chinese Qinwen Zheng, triumphed in straight sets (6-3 and 6-2) against the American Jessica Pegula, a result that allowed him to meet in the semifinals with Daria Kasatkina.
The Russian, 20th in the WTA classification, advanced to the round of the best four for the first time, eliminating her compatriot Veronika Kudermetova in the quarterfinals with runs of 6-4, 7-6(5).
In the lower part of the women’s draw, the role of the ‘semi’ will be in charge of Coco Gauff (USA, 23rd) and Martina Trevisan (ITA, 59th).
While the American left behind her compatriot Sloane Stephens (7-5 and 6-2), the European knocked down Canadian Leylah Fernández with a 6-3 in the deciding set. Both will play this instance in Grand Slam tournaments for the first time.
