The interim president of the Christian Democracy, Aldo Mardones, described the request by nine former presidents of the Falange for the board of directors to convene a national meeting for next Saturday, October 15, as an attempt at a “white coup,” thus joining the was scheduled for November 12. The petition was accompanied by 160 signatures of dissident delegates, thus exceeding the 135 required by internal regulations.
In this way, the nine former helmsmen of the DC managed to convene a new meeting, now in person, after gathering support that exceeded a third of delegates. “I think that the militancy accepted the call of the former presidents that the political decision in the DC cannot continue to be delayed, that it is essential that the board of directors give its political account, that it be possible to discuss that political account and make decisions regarding the table as soon as possible,” he told The Mercury the former president of the community, Fuad Chahín. Consequently, the new national board would be the first after the resignation of the mayor of La Granja, Felipe Delpín, who decided to leave the table on September 7 after the debacle of the I approve option in the plebiscite.
Likewise, Chahín maintained that, if this definition does not come from the leadership, “the party will reach a situation of bankruptcy, as is happening, and of ungovernability.” In this way, Chahín urged the board of directors to accept the message of the militancy and convene that national board for the next few days, which is precisely the request signed, in addition to Chahín, by former President Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle, Enrique Krauss, Andrés Zaldívar, Ricardo Hormazábal, Miriam Verdugo, Juan Carlos Latorre, Jorge Pizarro and Carolina Goic.
Interim President Aldo Mardones, meanwhile, stated that he was aware of the request, which must be submitted to the DC’s national secretariat so that it can be subsequently analyzed by the Supreme Court. Although he stressed that the dissidents have every right to carry out the actions they deem convenient, the helmsman of the Falange clarified that this meeting would in no case replace the one set for November 12, remote in nature, “which is already convened and it has to be done yes or yes because it deals with different subjects”.
“Unfortunately I see some comrades more concerned with taking control of the party again than with trying to order and regularize the situation. If their line is to try to regain power by power, I think they are going the wrong way, that is won through representative elections of the militancy universe and not through these forms, called white coups, “he added. .
Mardones also did not keep a veiled criticism of Fuad Chahín, whom they accuse of disaffecting real estate at a value lower than the market value: “The interest of the former presidents should be in asking for explanations from those who have committed irregularities in previous administrations.”
