More than 300 units of the National Border Service (Senafront) will be deployed in the border area with Colombia to strengthen surveillance and counteract any threat to security in the communities located in the border area, this was announced by the Minister of Public Security, Juan Manuel Pino during his visit to the province of Dariéde this Tuesday, October 18.
Pino went to Darién in the company of General Laura Richardson, commander of the United States Southern Command, where they spoke about the need to work as a team on migration issues and to face the threats of organized crime.
The head of Public Security thanked the support and collaboration offered by the United States through Operation Mercury, which allows the transfer of materials and equipment to areas of difficult access. And he pointed out that this tour in Darién serves to evaluate the effect of security and illegal migration in this area of the country.
He announced that the 6 helicopters of the Carcimerida or aviation plan that they currently have will be replaced by 8 new twin-turbine helicopters, which will strengthen operations in this border sector.
For her part, General Richardson, who ended her two-day visit to Panama today, said that there is much work to be done with the challenges that are impacting the country with migration and threats from transnational criminal organizations. “We work together, as a team, with Panama” ‘she indicated.
