Inteligencia cuba,a Petro, Colombia

Cuban regime would be supporting Petro’s candidacy for the presidency of Colombia

MIAMI, United States. — The Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba (FDHC) assures that the Cuban regime would be supporting Gustavo Petro’s candidacy for the presidency of Colombia.

The organization, based in the United States, points out that behind the efforts to support Petro would be Colonel Raúl Montes García, 60, who was accredited as Minister Counselor of the Cuban Embassy in Colombia on February 10, 2022.

According to the investigator and journalist Luis Domínguez, he is probably the person with the most experience in Cuban intelligence on Latin American issues.

The expert points out that Montes García has been in intelligence since the 1980s and has always worked with Latin America, in the so-called Department M2.

Domínguez adds that the Minister Counselor of the Cuban Embassy in Bogotá has also received relevant distinctions given for his work in intelligence tasks, such as the Antonio Briones Montoto medal, first class, and the Olo Pantoja medal, also first class.

“One of the most experienced people in Cuban intelligence is sent to Colombia when there are elections. This has happened before. It would be good for the Colombian people to realize the covert work carried out by the Cuban regime in that country,” Luis Domínguez said.

It should be noted that in 2021 the Colombian government declared persona non grata to the Cuban diplomat Omar Rafael Garcia Lazofirst secretary of the Cuban embassy in Bogotá, for carrying out “activities incompatible with the Vienna Convention”, a treaty that regulates the powers of diplomatic missions at the international level.

The Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba highlights that García Lazo operated as a link between the island’s regime and the so-called solidarity groups “that Havana uses as shock troops for destabilization.”
