Cuban migrants die in a traffic accident in Mexico

Madrid Spain.- Six migrants, among whom were Cubans, lost their lives in an accident that occurred this Friday in the state of Puebla, Mexico.

As reported by the local media Central Newspaper, four of the deceased were children.

“Eleven passengers in a truck that transported migrants from Cuba and Honduras suffered an accident. The majority of the victims are children”, specifies the information.

At the time of the accident, the migrants were traveling through the “La Cuestecilla” area on federal highway 144 El Seco-Azumbilla, in a Chevrolet Suburban truck, license plate DNY757D from the state of Chiapas.

The passengers, who did not have legal documentation to stay in Mexico, intended to cross the state of Puebla.

“Due to the magnitude of the accident, emergency elements requested support from other reaction groups to be able to transfer the victims and requested the arrival of the ministerial authorities to remove the bodies,” he explained. Central Newspaper.

The injured were taken to a hospital. Subsequently, depending on their recovery status, they will be handed over to the National Migration Institute (INM) due to their irregular immigration status. The bodies of the deceased are in the process of undergoing a necropsy.

In Last March three other Cuban migrants died in a car accident on the Tinaja-Cosoleacaque highway, in the Mexican state of Veracruz; and another 15 people, both from the Island and from Nicaragua, were injured.

In June This year it transpired that Grupo Beta, in charge of protecting migrants transiting through Mexico, recovered the bodies of 37 people who died between January and May 2022 trying to reach the United States.

Of the migrants, most of whom drowned trying to cross the Rio Grande, 15 came from Cuba, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Peru, Venezuela and Mexico. Another 22 did not carry identification.
