Cruise season begins in Colón. Chamber of Commerce hopes it will help boost the economy

During this month of October, the cruise season begins in the province of Colón, in which the arrival of 8,000 cruise passengers at the Colon 2000 Cruise Port is expected each month.

According to the Chamber of Commerce of Colon, with the arrival of cruise lines from companies such as Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruises, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruises and Celebrity Cruises, it is expected to help boost the economy of Colon through traditional tourism, purchases, consumption in micro, small and medium businesses.

Likewise, through the Colón Free Port Special System, which encourages duty-free retail purchases in the 16 streets of the city of Colón.

He stressed that “this will help generate jobs, create enterprises and little by little improve to minimize the high unemployment rate which, according to official figures, in Colón is higher than 12%”.

It should be noted that, currently, it is estimated that the consumption of each cruise passenger/tourist in the province of Colón will be between $100-$150, causing a direct economic impact between $500,000.00 – $1,000,000.00 each month.
