María Virginia Acosta and Yhonni José Barreto were arrested on the afternoon of this Sunday, May 28, by police officers from the Miranda municipality, in Anzoátegui state, for keeping a 12-year-old minor chained to a bed.
The detainees, the mother and stepfather respectively, committed child abuse in a room in the house that they shared with the young man, located on Quintana street in the San Mauricio 1 sector of the aforementioned town in the southern part of the state.
The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, announced the procedure through social networks, where he stressed that they were left to the order of the 12th Prosecutor’s Office of the state of Anzoátegui and will be charged with the crime of aggravated cruel treatment, foreseen in articles 254 and 217 of the Organic Law for the Protection of Boys, Girls and Adolescents (Lopnna). The information was accompanied by a photo where a chain can be seen on one of the legs of a bed.
