The mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, referred to the corruption problem that affects Uruguay and mentioned the recent case involving the former custodian of the Presidency, Alejandro Astesiano. Cosse affirmed that the situation is “very serious” and that the limits of corruption are not fully known.
In addition, the mayor expressed her hope that the government takes a reasonable position on the problem and expressed her concern for the future of Uruguay, since she considers that the country is “without direction.”
Cosse also criticized the lack of action by the Board of Ethics and Public Transparency and expressed his fear that new cases of corruption will be discovered in the future. In conclusion, the mayor called for attention and unity to face the problem and improve the situation in the country.
Cosse is emerging along with Yamandú Orsi as two of the potential presidential candidates of the Broad Front, with a view to returning to the government to give the left the fourth victory in its history.
