Coordinator of Pots says that “there is hunger”; Lemma states that "demand fell"

The Minister of Social Development, Martín Lema, said this Monday that “demand dropped” in the country’s popular pots and that “there is no doubt about that”while from the popular pots it is ensured that demand remains “high”.

“There are three lanes that are indicators of the decline,” Lema assured. He reported that the number of users of the National Dining System was reduced between 8 thousand and 8,500 per day if you compare the first half of 2022 and 2021. In that period, the delivered dishes also fell from 260 thousand to 62 thousandaccording to official figures.

In parallel, the Army developed 62 thousand plates of food in the first half of 2022; in the same period of 2021 that figure was 260 thousand, said the minister. And he insisted that there was “a drop in the number of pots and demand.”

He recalled that “pots are not an end in themselves”.

For Cecilia Sarasola, spokeswoman for the Solidarity Coordinator of Pots Populares “the pots are still necessary at this time” and “demand remains high”.

Contrary to what Lema said, he said: “We are not feeling the reactivation but quite the opposite”. In this sense, the groups met in the last few hours to visualize how to continue.

Sarasola affirms that some initiatives are not being able to go ahead. He added: “In the middle or end of the month the demand increases. Any neighbor or neighbor who is not giving him to make ends meet begins to leave his house.

As reported, 1,246,000 portions are delivered monthly. “It’s a lot already. We have been demanding from the government that there is hunger, that we cannot become a public policy,” he said..
