Attorney Miriam Germán favors the development of arbitration as a discipline of Law

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Attorney General of the Republic, Miriam Germán Brito, favored the strengthening of the role of arbitration against international standards for conventions between the parties, as a contribution to the development of Law and legal certainty.

Attending a conference event on this matter, Judge Germán Brito pondered the high level of the topics put up for debate and of the personalities speaking and predicted the success of the Fourth Dominican-French Colloquium on International Arbitration, which brought together renowned national lawyers and foreigners at the Hotel Intercontinental Real, in Santo Domingo.

“I hope that the result of the conference justifies that each year people who are knowledgeable and interested in this matter continue to meet in new deliveries of this colloquium, so that the exchange strengthens the institution of arbitration in our country,” said Germán Brito, who participated in the table of honor of the opening act.

With the theme “The mission of the arbitrator in the face of mandatory rules: reflections on the duties and powers of the international arbitrator”, the colloquium brought together jurists, teachers and arbitrators from France, the Dominican Republic and other Latin American countries on Thursday.

The program records the participation of Sylvain Bollée, Sébastien Manciaux, Mathias Audit, Claire Debourg, Luca de Maria, Juan Pablo Cárdenas, Iván Urzhumov, Carlos Arrue, Edynson Alarcon, Lucas Guzmán and Leidilyn Contreras.

The highest representative of the Public Ministry expressed her wish that the conferences and debates leave a broad learning for the benefit of the legal community in matters of international arbitration, alluding with a touch of humor to the litigant profile of the Law professional.

“As I understand that here, practically, the entire audience is made up of lawyers, I am not sure that great consensus will be reached; but I am sure that entertaining and lengthy discussions will be enjoyed and I hope that at the end of the day they will be able to equip themselves with the identification of the main points to be taken into account in this interesting interaction between arbitrators and mandatory rules”.
