The project to build the Fourth Bridge over the Panama Canal will resume in the second half of this year, confirmed the Minister of Public Works, Rafael Sabonge, after appearing before the National Assembly’s Public Infrastructure and Canal Affairs Commission.
Sabonge mentioned that the project has a complex financing structure and that they held a recent meeting with representatives of the banks that will finance the work, in which directors of the consortium in charge of the work also participated.
The Minister of Public Works recalled that the construction of the Fourth Bridge over the Canal is a very important work for connectivity with Western Panama and for the more than 4,000 direct jobs that will be generated in the coming months once it is resumed. the play.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) is working on giving continuity to the patching work on the Bridge of the Americas, announced for this week. He said that the structure is in perfect condition although the concrete roadway is not. The entity is in the process of bidding for the rehabilitation of the road over the bridge at an approximate cost of 4 million dollars, the results of which are expected to be obtained before the end of the year.
In the case of the Centennial Bridge, Minister Rafael Sabonge indicated that maintenance work is also being contemplated, although on a smaller scale. “It requires less work, rather cleaning, cable maintenance and so on because it is a newer structure and it is in better condition than the Bridge of the Americas,” he said.
