Commerce is still active for New Year sales

Comercio sigue activo por ventas de Año Nuevo

Although yesterday there was a positive flow of buyers, sellers complained that they have not sold the same

The flow of buyers in the main commercial artery of the Greater Santo Domingo It continued yesterday, although to a lesser extent than in previous years, according to merchants.

The shops on the avenue Duarte, Villa Consuelo and other commercial areas began the morning with a large number of buyers, who took advantage of their offers, on the penultimate day of the year 2022.

“Yes, since the second week of December sales have been recovering. Something is being sold, not the same as last year, but you can’t complain,” said José Arias, a peddler on the avenue Duarte.

He pointed out that at least he had already recovered the investment in merchandise for these dates.
In the tour of the different areas, the purchase was observed mostly of clothes and shoes, but some took the opportunity to buy toys, which are already adorning the windows of some stores, for the celebration of the Holy Kings next week.

Consulted buyers agreed that they made a sacrifice to be able to buy clothes, not because they were only expensive, but because the salary they currently earn is not enough.

“Imagine, someone earning less than RD$20,000 and having to buy food and pay for a ticket. Those chelitos don’t give,” said José Cuevas. He insisted that he and his wife make a sacrifice to buy clothes for his three children.
