College of Teachers of the Metropolitan Region considered a proposal from mayors to delay face-to-face classes: "It is essential to have all the sanitary measures"

The College of Teachers of the Metropolitan Region showed its support for the proposal of some Mayors who seek to delay face-to-face classes for a couple of weeks, due to the concern generated by the critical situation that the country is going through due to the Omicrón variant , before the school system of the RM, in which there are approximately three thousand schools that receive about 1,380,000 students a year.

Mario Aguilar, president of this metropolitan union, stressed that it is the will of teachers to return to face-to-face classes, however, this return must be with all health security measures for the entire Educational Community: students, parents, teachers and workers of the education.

Along these lines, for Aguilar “it is important to listen to several Mayors who express their concern by pointing out that they do not have the material or financial conditions to implement the health security measures that are required.” The union leader reiterated that “it does not depend on the simple will of an authority. For the return to occur, the pandemic must be in greater control, and have the necessary material conditions in each school in Chile”

This is why for the teacher it is not acceptable that some schools have all the sanitary measures, while in others the girls and boys may be at risk of contagion, for not having the minimum sanitary conditions.

Aguilar added that “happily, the current indolent government is leaving, therefore what it does is not so relevant,” so it is the new government that must ensure that absolutely all schools in Chile have “the conditions of health security that are required, and of course to the entire educational community”.

According to the above, the union leader finds the call of some Mayors to delay the face-to-face return for a few weeks reasonable, since “this discrimination cannot be accepted that some schools have all the care and others, the vast majority , no. The minimum conditions must be met, which are: internationally indicated adequate distance of 2 meters between desks, certified masks available, having air filters in the rooms, permanent cross ventilation and suspending the entire school day, in order to distribute student attendance. students in the morning and afternoon.

“For all this, we consider that the proposal of some Mayors to postpone the start of face-to-face classes for a couple of weeks should be evaluated, since it is essential to have all the sanitary measures,” said the president of the union.
