The political table of the Broad Front held a press conference this Monday where they presented economic proposals to alleviate the rise in inflation. The document has proposals in the area of prices, pensions, fuel and employment.
Among the main measures is the proposal to eliminate VAT on 19 products that make up the basic basket, as well as supergas for at least six months for purchases made by electronic means of payment.
The VAT suspension is proposed to be extended also for diesel for micro, small and medium-sized companies. Likewise, the reduction of sensible tariffs for the most impoverished sectors. The latter contemplates electrical traffic for consumption of less than 300 Kv.
As for fuels in general, the document aims to maintain their prices until the end of the year.
For social assistance, they recommend doubling the amount assigned to beneficiaries of the Uruguay Social card and the Family Allowance Plan Equity. In addition, this year it is adjusted monthly by the CPI.
Salaries and liabilities
With respect to salaries, pensions and pensions, the Broad Front calls for an immediate salary increase to take effect from May 1. In addition, the president of the opposition party, Fernando Pereira, asked that the increase not be deducted from the 2023 adjustment.
“It is essential that this increase be carried out within the framework of collective bargaining,” Pereira added.
In addition, they asked to increase the national minimum wage and convene the Salary Council. This last measure for the branches that do not have a corrective in the middle of this year.
“That through the vote with the workers, the government ensures a salary increase in the same direction as that proposed for the public sector,” Pereira explained. Likewise, he asked for a “differential” increase for rural workers, since they have higher earnings than expected.
