Bia Ferreira wins semi and will compete in her 3rd boxing world final

Bahian Beatriz Ferreira performed yet another feat in Brazilian boxing history by qualifying for her third consecutive world final. This Thursday (23), the current number 1 in the world in the under 60 kg category defeated the South Korean Oh Yeonj, in the semifinal of the World Cup in New Delhi (India). World champion in 2019 and runner-up last year, the Brazilian will decide the 60 kg title with Colombian Angie Valdes, next Saturday (25), at 9:25 am (Brasília time). If she wins the final, Bia will become the country’s first female boxer with the most world titles in history. The Brazilian had the chance, last year, to win the second gold medal in the competition, but lost the decision to the American Rashida Ellis.

Also on Thursday (22), Bárbara Santos ended her first participation in Worlds, with a bronze medal in the 70 kg (non-Olympic category). The Brazilian was beaten in the semi by Australian Kaye Frances, in a split decision by the judges.

The Boxing World Cup brings together athletes from 23 countries, spread across four continents. In addition to Bia Ferreira and Bárbara Santos, the Brazilian delegation traveled to India with five other athletes: Beatriz Soares (66 kg), Tatiana Chagas (54 kg), Caroline “Naka” Almeida (50 kg), Jucielen Romeu (57 kg) and Viviane Pereira (75kg).
