In this sense, he proposed to the legislators to raise the non-taxable minimum income tax, which currently and without deductions is 36,148 pesos per month. However, the Broad Front senator Mario Bergara said that raising the non-taxable income tax minimum “does not benefit the lower middle class.”
He explained that a family with two children pays income tax from income of almost 60,000 pesos per month, and a person without children from 45,000 pesos.
“To ease the burden on those most in need, the most appropriate thing is to lower VAT or strengthen social policies,” he proposed.
