Bergara referred to Lacalle’s speech before the Legislative Power and said that the president “gave a host of numbers and processes not always with references to how much they mean in terms of social aid or other types of variables.”
The Frente Amplio legislator stated that Parliament is supposed to address the issues that matter to the people, but Lacalle Pou “avoided, did not mention, the reduction of salaries and liabilities or the increase in taxes and fees.”
did not comply
When asked by the press about Lacalle’s announcement that in 2023 the Social Security Assistance Tax (IASS) will be reduced and deductions will be increased in the lowest bands of the Personal Income Tax (IRPF), Bergara responded that “advertisements and promises in tax matters must be taken with a grain of salt”.
He added that Lacalle, in the electoral campaign, had promised not to raise taxes and did not comply, “either due to the installation of the tax for the Covid Fund, or due to the reduction of the VAT refund on purchases with electronic means, and also due to the changes in the calculation methodology that means that more personal income tax and IASS are paid, because more people pay it and for larger amounts“.
“That is to say, nothing new and little relevant announcements”, Bergara sentenced.
