The director of the UCAB Center for Political and Government Studies warned of the possibility that the Unitary Platform primary may not take place and detailed some scenarios, such as the early presidential election
“If people do not show their determination to defend their Primary, it can disappear, without pain or glory as happened with the Revocation, due to a judicial decision or some other arbitrariness,” warned Benigno Alarcón, director of the Center for Political and Government Studies from the Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB).
The lawyer and magister scientiarum in Security and Defense raised the possibility that the primary elections of the Unitary Platform would be sabotaged.
“I hope I’m wrong, but early attacks on the primary can be expected. The first attacks can occur using the technical commission between the CNE (National Electoral Council) and the CNP (National Primary Commission) because it is the mechanism that has the lowest political costs for the government, ”he wrote in his account on Twitter.
“Other possible ways are the Law that regulates NGOs, the persecution of those who manage international cooperation resources for the Primary, maintaining the disqualifications of opposition candidates and, even, advancing the election by agreement with ‘the oppositions'” he continued.

Cabello: “There will be no primary”
On the other hand, Diosdado Cabello, first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), reiterated on Wednesday, February 15, that the opposition primary elections will not take place.
“I said it and I reiterate it: there will be no primaries here, that is a way to buy time,” Cabello said with Nicolás Maduro on the program Con el mazo dando,
He did not detail why the primaries could not take place, and he also stressed that these internal elections only involve a part of the opposition.
He criticized that they leave out those who actually have the opposition votes, such as deputies, mayors and governors, currently in office.
