"Bad management by Quiñónez could be seen coming"

“Bad management by Quiñónez could be seen coming”

On March 8, 2018, with 24 votes in the Senate, Sandra Quiñónez was elected as the new Attorney General of the State. She had just assumed the position, in her first speech she stated that “we will not tolerate any act of corruption or crooked practices of the past”, in her own words. However, after four years in office, she is questioned by various social and political sectors.

The first impeachment attempt came just two weeks after his inauguration. When the Efrainist caucus of the Chamber of Deputies announced the presentation of a political trial against the new attorney general. This is due to the frustration in the criminal prosecution in the death of Captain Enrique Piñánez as well as in that of journalist Pablo Medina.

In November 2019, Salyn Buzarquis, a national senator for the PLRA, announced that he was analyzing the presentation of a political trial due to the inaction of the attorney general in the “Lava Jato” case.

FERREIRO
Guillermo Ferreiro, lawyer and president of the Partido Revolucionario Febrerista (PRF), and one of the promoters of the last impeachment attempt against Quiñónez (June 2021), affirmed that the sad thing about this issue is that this administration could be seen coming from the moment that the current attorney general occupied the list that had to be elected by the Chamber of Senators.

“Justice is a great debt we owe to society. Now that certain sectors are interested, especially the Colorado inmate, the intention of dismissal is moving again. This shows that everything that is done around justice is not for the citizens, but for internal accommodations of some sectors of power, ”he said.

For the politician, the “cajoneo” of denunciations of acts of corruption that weigh on the ANR, especially on chartism, are the most emblematic irregularities of Quiñónez’s management.
