Government bought 10 million doses of bird flu vaccines for an estimated cost of US$ 360,000, announced the Livestock Minister, fernando mattos.
Vaccines will be obligatory for “breeding henswhich are the ones that generate the replacement of either broiler chickens or laying hens and also (is aimed at) the laying hens who are the adults, who lay eggs,” Minister Mattos told the Presidency portal.
The purchase of the two types of doses ranges from US$ 360,000. “We are going to be attentive to the epidemiological evolution of the region to find out if a third dose is necessary or to introduce vaccination in another category,” said Mattos.
Next week the vaccines will arrive from Mexico, while Vaccination will begin on May 2.. From the Executive Power they hope that “in the environment of 20 days the entire target herd will be vaccinated.”
The Ministry detected 10 foci of bird flu in the country, two of them in the capital. The last registered was a focus of 50 birds in Montevideo Last Tuesday, April 18, most of the animals died.
