This July 21, the bench of Country advances presented the Bill 2693 which has the purpose reduce from 87 to 78 the votes needed to approve the presidential vacancy. This initiative was promoted by congressmen Norma Yarrow, Rosselli Amururz and Diego Bazan.
“The agreement that declares the vacancy of the Presidency of the Republic, for the reasons provided for in paragraph 2 of article 113 of the Constitution, requires a qualified vote of no less than 3/5 of the legal number of members of Congress and is recorded in a resolution of Congress”, reads one part of the proposal.
This initiative comes in the midst of a possible vacancy motion against the President of the Republic, peter castlebehind the departure of Mariano González from the Ministry of the Interior, measure announced by several parliamentarians.

Likewise, the bill has the digital signatures of parliamentarians John Burgos, Joseph Williams Y Patricia Chirinos, in addition to the three congressmen mentioned above.
President peter castle has faced two unsuccessful vacancy motions. The first occurred at the end of 2021, when the congresswoman Patricia Chirinos presented it, but did not have enough votes to withdraw the head of state of the presidential chair. The second was in March of this year. With 55 votes in favour, 54 against and 19 abstentionsthe initiative promoted by Jorge Montoya, of People’s Renewaldid not get the required support.
Recently, Chirinos Venegas indicated that it has 75 votes from his parliamentary colleagues to support the vacancy motion against Castle Lumpsbut they need the support of Together for Peru (now called Democratic Change) to concretize the fact.

Diego Bazán after presenting PL: “It will help us achieve our goal”
The congressman from the bench of advance country, Diego Bazanspoke about the recent Bill that she promotes together with her parliamentary colleagues.
“We need the Constitution Commission rule this Project and, after being ruled, will go to the vote of the Full and with 66 votes it will be approved, but I think it is a sample and an advance. As we know from other congressmen, it is proposed that in the next few days a presentation of the presidential vacancy be made. In this sense, this is going to help us to finally be able to meet the objective that we have been seeking so much for several weeks.“, said Diego Bazan.
