Inflation had the greatest increase in education services, followed by food and non-alcoholic beverages
Inflation in August was 1.4%, according to information published by the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV), which means that it doubled the figure for July, which was 0.7%. This is the third highest monthly variation so far this year.
The sector that registered the largest increase was the education services sector, with a 3.2% increase. In July, it only rose by 1%. Next in line is the food and non-alcoholic beverages sector, with an increase of 2.1% last month, compared to an increase of 0.8% in July. The health sector reported an increase of 1.5% in August, after rising 0.8% in the previous month.
Clothing and footwear (0.9%), housing rentals (0.3%), household equipment (0.9%), and communications (0.3%) kept their price indices unchanged in August, according to BCV data.
The sectors that reported lower price variations compared to the previous month were: alcoholic beverages and tobacco, which went from 1.7% in July to 1% in August; and miscellaneous goods and services from 0.6% to 0.4%.
Transport fell from 0.6% in July to 0.7% in August. Likewise, leisure and culture fell from 0.7% to 1.1% in the inter-monthly calculation.
Food and beverages recorded their largest monthly variation in August so far in 2024. In the case of health, it is the third largest increase since 2.5% in January and 1.6% in March.
