At least nine people have been missing since Friday, September 23 in the state of Táchira, after the flooding of the La Molina stream, in the sector known as Potrero de Las Casas, Lobatera municipality. They were part of a group of people doing a retreat in the area.
This Saturday, various agencies – including Civil Protection – continued search and rescue operations for these missing people, who were initially said to be 33 and the number was reduced to 28.
According to the newspaper The nationthe group made up of young people from the states of Portuguesa and Táchira was on a retreat at a club in the area, and during their field activity the flow of the stream grew considerably, so they could not return to the club.
From the Emergency Operations Center (COE) in the Los Potreritos Club, PC-Táchira officials and rapid intervention vehicles were prepared, along with other municipal teams. This group has already managed to rescue 10 people who were isolated on the other side of the La Molina creek; and were treated and stabilized.
In the camp there were five people who were safe, for a total of 17 people. Two arrived safely under their own power.
The Los Potreritos Club, which was initially accused of carrying out the expedition, denied having anything to do with what happened. “The activity carried out was not in charge of my company. We are providing all the collaboration to solve this emergency, “they detailed in a statement.
