At least 2 thousand 859 cases of dengue have been registered throughout the country

The report provided by the Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) indicated that from the first epidemiological week (January 2) to No. 30 (week ending on Saturday, July 30) of the year 2022, 2 1,859 cases of dengue throughout the country.

Of the 2,859 registered cases, the report highlighted that 2,538 occurred without warning signs; 312 cases with warning signs; 9 are serious cases and 1 death.

The report indicated that the five regions with the most cases of dengue registered at the national level are headed by the Metropolitan Health Region with 659 cases; North Panama with 573 cases; Bocas del Toro with 457 cases; Panamá Oeste with 415 cases and San Miguelito with 252 cases.

It is followed by the Health regions of Panama East and Chiriquí with 135 cases; Herrera with 119 cases; Los Santos with 47 cases; Veraguas with 18 cases; Coclé with 17 cases; Columbus 16 cases; Darién with 3 cases and the Guna Yala comarcas with 9 cases and the Ngäbe Buglé comarca with 4 positive cases.

The Minsa urges the population to clean their surroundings and inside their homes, cover the containers with water and keep in mind that nebulization only kills the adult mosquito.

Dengue prevention and control must be intersectoral and involve the family and the community.

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) pointed out that dengue is a febrile illness that affects infants, children and adults, with symptoms ranging from a moderate fever to a disabling high fever, with severe headache and behind the eyes.

In addition, symptoms such as muscle and joint pain, and rashes occur.

On the other hand, the cases of Hantavirus so far this year, until epidemiological week No 31 (ended on Saturday, August 6) there have been twenty-three cases of Hantavirus disease, of which sixteen cases have been classified as Cardiopulmonary Syndrome for Hantavirus and seven for Hantavirus fever.

Of these 23 confirmed cases, 22 recovered from the disease and one death was recorded (which occurred at the beginning of the year, in the province of Herrera) due to Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome.

The report stressed that the cases of Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome, the province of Los Santos has the highest rate of confirmed cases with nine cases and the same, are residents of the districts of Tonosí with five cases; Villa de los Santos with three cases and Las Tablas, with one registered case.

Three cases follow in Herrera (Pesé, Ocú and Chitré) of which one died. The province of Coclé also registers three cases (Natá, Penonomé and Antón) with one case registered in each of these townships, and one case in Panamá Oeste.
