The former presidential custodian, Alejandro Astesiano, testified this Monday before the Flagrancia prosecutor, Gabriela Fossati. His lawyer Marcos Prieto indicated that the primary line of investigation of the passports was added to his relationship with police officers and the exchange of favors, and the complaint of alleged espionage against the senators of the Broad Front, Mario Bergara and Charles Carrera.
“Today, it was an extensive working day of statements for the three causes,” said the defender in relation to the more than four hours of interrogation of Astesiano. Prieto was consulted about a possible abbreviated trial. “That possibility is always there, it is a tool that we have,” he said. “You can’t be talking about agreement, when the investigation is expanding,” he added.
“This is not the time to talk about agreements. We are working on it,” the lawyer replied when asked about Astesiano’s recognition of the crimes. Prieto maintained that this Monday the new expert opinion on the ex-custodian’s cell phone was not discussed, which includes the conversations with President Luis Lacalle Pou that had been deleted due to a communication error. Prieto still did not have access to those conversations and this Tuesday he will attend the 10 in the morning to the headquarters of the Prosecutor’s Office to update the investigative folder. “There are things that make the case and that are not in the investigative file,” he said.
