The Joint Command of the Armed Forces (CCFAA) reported that two troops died as a result of clashes – which began on August 11 – of military and police patrols against members of Sendero Luminoso, in the Vizcatán (Vraem) area.
In a statement, it was specified that both died yesterday, Friday, August 12. They are the 2nd FFEE non-commissioned officer Edín Vásquez Huamán and the 2nd IMA officer Marden Valqui Rodríguez.
Likewise, a significant number of casualties have been caused in the ranks of the OT-SL, mainly from those close to its leader ‘José’, who is seriously injured.
“It also occurred with the capture of weapons, communications material, equipment, laptops, abundant literature, documents and other objects of interest.”, informed the Armed Forces.
Operations started on Thursday
On the morning of Thursday, August 11, the Armed Forces and the National Police, with the participation of the Public Ministry, began combat operations against Terrorist Criminals (DDTT) of the Shining Path terrorist organization.
Through a releaseit was detailed that during the air assault the terrorists opened fire on the helicopters that were carrying out the insertion of the patrols, resulting in a gunshot wound to the left knee of OM1 Óscar Pinedo Picón, who was treated at the Pichari Military Health Center.
