Tomás Farini Duggan, legal representative of the Argentine Forum for the Defense of Democracy, m (FADD) presented a brief to the office of federal prosecutor Carlos Stornelli (Argentine justice) in which he denounced that “the security forces of Venezuela have surrounded the embassy; They have violated the airspace of the Argentine representation through the use of unmanned ships; “They cut off water and electricity services, which is a clear statement by the Government of Nicolás Maduro that the lives of refugees are seriously threatened.”
The Argentine Forum for the Defense of Democracy (FADD) expanded the criminal case against the government of Nicolás Maduro for alleged crimes against humanity that is progressing in the Federal Justice of Argentina. Added to the complaint is the complaint of the siege of the embassy of that country in Caracas, where five Venezuelan opponents remain asylum.
Lawyer Tomás Farini Duggan, legal representative of the FADD, presented a brief to the office of federal prosecutor Carlos Stornelli, in which he denounced “the very serious events through which the freedom and safety of Magalli Meda are deprived and threatened. Pedro Urruchurtu, Humberto Villalobos, Claudia Macero and Omar González; who are asylum in the Argentine embassy in Caracas, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, after being formally recognized in that capacity by the Government of our country.
In the complaint he detailed that “Venezuelan security forces have surrounded the embassy; They have violated the airspace of the Argentine representation through the use of unmanned ships; They cut off water and electricity services; They do not allow access to embassy employees even to deliver food or drinking water to the asylum seekers and, recently, they have installed snipers on the perimeters surrounding the building, which is a clear exposure on the part of the Government of Nicolás Maduro that the lives of refugees are seriously threatened.
He added that these events constitute “serious crimes against humanity for which Nicolás Maduro Moros and the remaining members of his government must respond.” He requested on behalf of the forum that they join the open case on the basis of universal jurisdiction of human rights.
The forum highlighted that “denying political asylum, and its consequent safe conduct, to people who are taking refuge in the Argentine embassy constitutes a flagrant violation of international law,” specifically the 1954 Convention on Diplomatic Asylum, signed by Argentina and Venezuela.
«We are not going to rest until those responsible for the siege of the Argentine embassy pay for their crimes. Just as we achieved the issuance of arrest warrants against Maduro, Cabello and other leaders of the regime, we will continue to go to all the spaces that are necessary until we achieve justice,” said Waldo Wolff, president of the FADD.
For her part, Elisa Trotta, general secretary, pointed out that more than a month of “constant” and “systematic” siege against the opposition asylum seekers in the Argentine embassy had been completed.
“The Maduro regime has turned this diplomatic headquarters into a prison in which it tortures these hostages, subjecting them to inhuman conditions, without electricity, without drinking water and restricting access to food. “The democratic world cannot remain silent in the face of this clear violation of human rights and international law,” he stated.
The five collaborators of opposition leader María Corina Machado have been holed up in the Argentine diplomatic residence since March 20, when the Maduro government issued arrest warrants against them. Since then, they have been waiting for safe passage to be granted to allow their safe exit from the country, but the State has refused.
Last April, the Argentine federal Justice opened a case for crimes against humanity in Venezuela, based on the principle of universal jurisdiction that allows countries to prosecute serious crimes against human rights regardless of where they were committed and nationality. of the perpetrators or their victims.
As part of this case, in September the Argentine Justice issued arrest warrants against Nicolás Maduro, Minister Diosdado Cabello and other regime officials, for crimes against humanity.
The head of the Con Vzla Command, Magalli Meda, one of the asylum seekers in the Argentine Embassy, denounced that the presence of ambassadors from different countries in Venezuela are “an appearance for the regime” and assured that “the regime and its Foreign Ministry demand that they “make silence.”
Meda indicated, through a publication in , that the space has become “a prison embassy” and that its safe conduct is a right.
