Argentina reports 4,430 new cases and another 84 deaths from covid-19

These figures mark a significant decrease compared to the infections reported on Friday, when 8,362 positives were added, although on weekends the number is usually lower.

According to official figures, 8.7 million people were infected and have been discharged, while the number of patients with a confirmed diagnosis of coronavirus who remain admitted to intensive care units was 1,009 on this day, well below below the maximum peak of 7,969 reported on June 14, 2021.

The percentage of bed occupancy in intensive care units for all types of pathologies is 40.1% at the national level and 40.5% if only Buenos Aires and its outskirts are considered.

Since the end of December, the South American country has been going through a “third wave” of the pandemic caused by the community spread of the omicron variant, although the number of positives has gradually decreased in recent weeks.

Argentina registered a record of 139,853 daily cases on January 14.

With some 45 million inhabitants, the South American country continues with its vaccination campaign against the coronavirus that began at the end of 2020.

According to the latest official data, so far 94 million doses have been applied and another 102.2 million distributed throughout the national territory.

A total of 40.4 million people received the first dose of the vaccine, while 36.5 million were already inoculated with the second.

Likewise, 3 million Argentines received a third additional dose and another 14.1 million a booster dose, within the framework of the vaccination strategy initiated last October to strengthen the population’s immunity.
