“Neiba” and “Unibersidad” were the words that were misspelled in the false diploma presented by the former official.
Oscar Motta took office as director of Information and Communication Technologies of the Mayor’s Office of Neiva in May 2017, but the bad spelling took its toll on his lie.
In September of this year, he was sanctioned by the Neiva Ombudsman, and the entity also started an investigation against Motta.
The Personería found that he presented some false documents at the time of taking office, including a diploma that contained spelling errors.
The man presented a false diploma in which he affirmed that he was a Systems Engineer and in said document, the words Neiva and University were misspelled.
Users of social networks, in defense of the official, pointed out that the font used in the diploma makes the “v” look like a “b”; but it was from the University that the clarification of the subject came.
It was reported that the man it did not appear in the university’s graduate records.
In addition, the National Engineering Council assured that there was no record whatsoever of the engineering degree or the professional card number of the former municipal official.
The lies to hold positions in Colombia
It is not the first time that it has been confirmed that an official in Colombia lied about his academic achievements; recently the Externado University confirmed a possible plagiarism in the master’s thesis of the president of the House of Representatives, Jennifer Arias.

Jhonatan Malagón, Minister of Housing, was also denounced for allegedly committing plagiarism in his doctoral thesis; on this case there is no decision either from the university or from the courts.
The former mayor of Bogotá and today a presidential candidate, Enrique Peñalosa, also lied about a master’s degree and a doctorate that, according to him, he had studied in Paris.
This has been done by mayors, councilors and other officials in positions of institutes and district, departmental entities and even ministries.
