Ambassador Ken Salazar defends that Quintero’s capture was exclusive to Mexico

The US reiterates concerns about AMLO's electricity reform

Ken Salazar emphasized that it is a success for both governments. “The arrest of someone who has long terrorized Mexican citizens and is implicated in the torture and death of a DEA agent it is a milestone not only for our governments, but also for the people of our countries“.

He added that “the successful Mexican operation exemplifies what we can achieve by working together to safeguard the citizens of Mexico and the United States.”

Caro Quintero was one of the most wanted men by the United States government, for the murder of the American agent Enrique ‘Kiki’ Camarena, which occurred in 1985 in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

In that year he was arrested that year in Costa Rica, however, on August 9, 2013 he was released by an amparo granted for an “erroneous criminal process” or “technicality”, but in 2015, the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) ordered his arrest again.

The DEA requires Caro Quintero for the crimes of kidnapping, murder of a federal agent, aid and abetment, possession and distribution of marijuana and cocaine, as well as operation of a criminal enterprise.
