Of the 861 gigawatt-hours (GWh) that were consumed last month, 484 were from wind power (53.8%), hydro 301 GWh (33.5%), biomass 72 GWh (8%), solar 42 GWh ( 4.6%), thermal 0.5% GWh (0.06%).
In 2000, the first experimental wind turbine was installed in the Sierra de los Caracoles, and in 2007 the first commercial wind turbine was installed in Maldonado. Uruguay has a total of 43 wind farms that generate energy.
