The Permanent Assembly for Human Rights (APDH) reported this Sunday the death of its honorary president Alicia Herbón, a teacher and activist against “the concentration of power and privileges.”

“Military with Alicia has been an immeasurable experience. Ali formed us in dreams and strong, universal, supportive and, fundamentally, revolutionary ideals. Today we have to say goodbye to her, we will follow her example,” they expressed from APDH.

This was stated by the organization through a statement, where they also noted that “In times of uncertainty, turmoil, and tumultuous political and social times, Ali did not take half measures.”

“She was always clear in her position against the concentration of power and privileges, wherever it may be, bother whoever it bothers,” they added.

And they highlighted: “Her militancy in human rights has been vast, her work has left a mark on those of us who trained with her in the defense of human rights, it is difficult to fire a companion who is very dear to all”.

Herbón received the APDH Dignity Award in 2019“for his career in the fight for human rights, the contribution made in his militant work for the Assembly since 1980 and his irreplaceable work for the incorporation of the teaching of human rights in the educational system.”

She was a normal national teacher, Graduated from Normal No. 10, with teaching experience as a teacher and professor of music and languages ​​at the Experimental School of Aesthetic Education of La Matanza and the School of Ceramics of the City of Buenos Aires.

Over there developed an active union action, produced teaching materials and participated in innovative experiences such as Project XIII, while encouraging student participation.

At the beginning of the 1980s, she began her participation in APDH, following the disappearance of a colleaguewhere she was part of the culture commission, later becoming secretary of education.

In addition to coordinating the area of ​​education, Alicia assumed the challenging and laborious role of being the Coordinating Secretary of the APDH for many years.
