For José Yurramendi, the prohibition “has made us aware” and its eventual modification “is a discussion that Uruguay must give.”
The mayor of Cerro Largo, José Yurramendi, referred in an interview with the news program 970 Noticias (970 Universal), to the policy of zero tolerance to alcohol for vehicle drivers. The departmental hierarch said that it is a measure that improved people’s behavior.
“When this was discussed in Parliament, we were deputies. We were not in favor of zero, for the reasons that Antía mentioned. We thought it equaled people taking a locker, with a can of beer.”
Despite this statement, the hierarch recognized that the law has greatly improved people’s behavior and the possibility of going from 0 to 0.3 was reconsidered. He indicated that “it would not be the best option.”
“Honestly, it is a discussion that Uruguay should give, because this has greatly improved the behavior of the people. This measure of zero for me is excessive, on the other hand, it has made us aware and we have to see that it has more weight; if it equals down with the one that only takes a can or that we all become aware that it should not be taken while driving ”.
