ADN and Pinturas Popular announce “Paint your Gazcue” to rescue historic homes

Santo Domingo.- The Mayor of the National District (ADN) and Pinturas Popular presented this Wednesday the “Paint your Gazcue” project, a pilot plan that in its first stage will rescue and beautify some 30 homes with heritage value and that are part of the inventory of the architectural heritage of the historic sector.

As explained in a statement, the project is made up of two stages through which it is intended to rescue and beautify more than 70 buildings of heritage value, at the level of exterior painting, and that includes fixing sidewalks and landscaping.

The first stage is 30 homes and 40 homes in the second, as explained by the director of Urban Planning of the council, Mayobanex Suazo.

This pilot of DNA and Pinturas Popular is also the result of consensus and evaluation with various sectors and institutions that promote the care and defense of local heritage, in the same way integrating the neighborhood associations and owners of properties with these characteristics, generating a proposal that seeks to return the splendor and color of the architectural value of the historic Gazcue sector.

To ensure that the original characteristics of the buildings are maintained, as well as their color, both entities ensured through the project a management committee that will be made up of various architects specializing in heritage conservation.

“Thank Pinturas Popular for being allies of the city. Beauty is relative, but order and beauty are synonymous with beauty. Painting in the city is essential to build that feeling of well-being with which we have a commitment; for our city to be seen as equal to us, we all deserve to live in a dignified manner,” said Mayor Carolina Mejía.

On the other hand, the Council’s Environmental Management Directorate will be in charge of rescuing and maintaining the gardening of the houses, thus returning the garden city criterion to this important sector of the National District. While the Urban Infrastructure Department will be in charge of refurbishing the sidewalks through the rescue process that is currently underway.

“I would like to thank the mayor for allowing us to accompany her in a project of such importance as the visual revitalization of this sector as iconic as Gazcue is and reiterate our willingness to continue supporting her in other projects”, were the words of Rubén Acevedo, executive vice president of Pinturas Popular.

“Paint your Gazcue” integrates hundreds of architecture students from different universities as volunteers for the renovation process, which represents an important step to generate a feeling of protection and appreciation of heritage among future local architecture professionals.
