The municipal workers’ union, Adeom, agreed with the Municipality of Montevideo in the decision to manage the collection in the center of the department, work carried out by the private company Consorcio Ambiental del Plata (CAP).
The decision, he said, is “aligned with the union’s proposal” and is part of a claim and added “this 30-year privatization is expensive, inefficient, of poor quality and does not provide a good service to the residents of the area”, said the general secretary of the union, Valeria Ripoll.
The leader said that the area where the change will take place is one of the “most favorable areas for collection” and that it would be “very easy” for municipal workers to take charge of it.
Ripoll said that they aspire for the management to be “remunicipalized”, that is, for the CAP workers to become municipal. The “administration trust” will have a 50% management of the commune, but the workers will continue to be under the private orbit, he explained.
